Toowoomba Regional Council - Greedy councillors make grab for more money ...
Cr Carol Taylor says: "I'm worth it" or "It's mine, gimme!".
Cr Taylor thinks she works 240.5 hours a week or 34.4 hours a day over a seven-day week.
That's very impressive!
Mayor Peter Taylor and his fellow councillors have given themselves huge pay rises.
This is despite a council staff recommendation to the contrary.
Governance and administration manager Norm Garsden recommended to councillors that they accept a 4% pay rise.
However, Mayor Peter Taylor and the 10 councillors rejected his advice.
Cr Taylor opted for a 14% pay rise while councillors chose a rise of 9.4%.
Cr Taylor will now pocket $156,894 this year which is a self-appointed pay rise of $19,294.
Councillors will now earn $95,790 for 2009, an increase of $8230.
...
[A]t Wednesday’s meeting, Cr Carol Taylor sparked a vigorous discussion before councillors decided they would change the recommendation and pay themselves the maximum salary allowed by the tribunal.
...
See - Greedy councillors get noses in pay trough.
Councillors awarding themselves pay rises completely at odds with the current economic climate, what would be considered reasonable in the circumstances and what would be consistent with the pay increases of 1400 Council workers.
Acting in the best interests of the community or in their own self-interest?
You be the judge ...

Carol Taylor has just proven why they are not worth the money.
This is a job our for-bearers did for free and because they were the leaders in the community.
These people are clearly NOT!!
They will break the city!
They are so invisible because we never see them because they are mostly home in their own small towns.
They are scared to have an independent thought because they have been ordered to never be seen to differ about any-thing!

These people have given them 2 pay raises in 6 months!!
Cr. Carol Taylor told a ratepayer that this Council was broke, so how can they give them self this sort of pay raise?

Greed, pure greed.

Noone forced them to run in the election. They knew what the job required and knew what the pay was. It's not like they'd never seen the inside of a council office before. They were all councillors before the election. This is just a money grab by people who are only thinking of themselves. I want I want I want sums them up.

Why am I not surprised. Look at who the people elected. None of them have a social conscience. None of them are interested in making Toowoomba a better place. They are just worried about how much money they can stuff in their pockets while they're there and how they can do as little work as possible.

They have all proven themselves to be a useless bunch of clowns.
Taylor is only a figurehead for doing what the state govt wants.
Can these hopeless lot of councillors tell the community what they have achieved, and what they have done to improve our area - NOTHING!!!!
They are all a joke and need to go promptly.
How can they get away with giving themselves such a large payrise.
The editor of the chronicle, showed Carol Taylor to be wrong, how could she be working 37 hours a day? Or is that including the time it takes for her to count her money before she goes to bed.
The community was very wrong voting in this useless lot of councillors!

But they're there until at least March 2012 and probably September 2012.

The community should turn up in droves to the Tuesday meeting and make their feeling known. Take a poster and give them a boo or two.
They will not like it because they will not engage the people on any subject.
The community are having great difficulty in getting any of them to just answer a phone message left at the Council office.
No home phone numbers are listed so we are at the mercy of whether they want to talk to any-one at all.
They will not answer e-mails when a person has an enquiry so tell me how they earn they money?
These clowns want to act like a board of directors but they do not have the business sense to make decisions or to debate a subject.
They have the "agreement" in place to not have an independent thought so no-one was brave enough to turn down the huge increase proposed by Carol Taylor.
I thought John McVeigh had better sense than to just go along with the crowd.
Every time one of them opens their mouth they confirm that they are out of their depth to do this job! Because of this they should not be going after a pay increase when they are over paid for what they do now!.

Probably think that this may be the last pay rise for a while with the way the economy is so get as much as you can now.

WIN News:
Councillor Wage Increase
26 January 2009
The Toowoomba Regional Council's decision to increase elected members' salaries has drawn fire from many quarters of the community.
Mayor Peter Taylor today defending his council's stance, saying TRC is required by law to raise their pay cheques.
6:00 PM, January 26, 2009
But not by the maximum amount!
7:06 PM, January 26, 2009
Mayor Taylor tells us that they are making up for loosing the extra money they were paid as an incentive to work hard after the amalgamation. I believe that the 1st year was to be $12,000 and the 2nd $8,000 and so on until no extra was to be paid and the job was done.
They have gotten used to the "little extra" and will now make up for it with the big pay increase.
I hope none of them had aspirations to be re-elected because they certainly will not be after this debacle because they have made a complete hash of it.
It was all spelt out in the minutes and all they had to do was rubber stamp it and let it slip by as no-one else would have noticed but they must have felt guilty and needed to explain and of course they had to take more than the recommendation stated.
