61.8% of Toowoomba voters throwing up their breakfast this morning ...

... after reading that Toowoomba's former Mayor is included in the Queen's birthday honours list.

See - List of honours and Former Mayor gobsmacked.

These awards are clearly not worth the paper they are written on.

Still - if this is the price of getting rid of her ...

Update - you can add your feedback to the article in the Tasmanian Mercury here:

Mercury - No half-measures - feedback.

Who cares. She's gone and forgotten by Toowoomba. Even the Chronicle left her out of the feature on what the former councillors are doing now. Her water futures project was all about feathering her own nest at the expense of the people in Toowoomba and then jumping ship so she didn't have to drink any recycled water. Who knows, maybe the award was the payoff for not running for mayor at the time of the amalgamation just like Beattie got the LA job for standing down when Rudd told him to. She was a real piece of work that one.

For services to the community:

- leaving Toowoomba with useless obelisks in the main street

- declaring that 70% of people supported Water Futures when clearly they didn't

- various threats to the community and council staff if they didn't support Water Futures

- attempting to leave the irrigators up the creek without a paddle

- failing to win the Water Futures referendum

- making offensive remarks about both the Muslim and Jewish communities

- the inability to utter a sentence without profanity

- the inability to attend a meeting in her last 6 months in office without bursting into tears

- at all times avoiding discussing the issue of recycled water with the community.

For presiding over a council that told people the gas water would kill you and for refusing to look at any other option than her precious recycled water scheme.

Tasmania Mercury:

No half-measures for publican

June 09, 2008 12:00am

FROM recycling water in Toowoomba to pouring beers in Franklin, Diane Thorley is not one to do things in half measures.

"It was a bit of a mongrel pub when we arrived but I love small places and we are feeling part of this community already," Ms Thorley said from the Franklin Hotel.

Ms Thorley arrived in Tasmania after spending 11 years in local government in Queensland.

During her three terms with the Toowoomba Council, she led the pioneering and controversial Water Futures initiative which involved using recycled waste water for domestic water consumption in that city.

Ms Thorley was also involved in a range of youth education, social welfare, environmental and conservation projects and helped reshaped the city's annual Carnival of Flowers so it was less dependent on water.

She also helped steer Toowoomba's future with the development of the Toowoomba Council's 2050 Community Plan.

Ms Thorley also helped establish and raise funds for a community organisation to open a centre which assesses and rehabilitates people with alcohol or drug dependency.

No half-measures is right. An award for ripping the Toowoomba community in two.

Add me to the 61.80%. I could not belive my eyes when she appeared on the screen. Still, if you are a Socialist you are rewarded no matter how inept, foul mouthed and belligerant you are. I wonder what reward Labor's John Della Bosca will get if he goes quietly

Well, this has to be a complete mockery of the awards. As some-one stated, it is not worth the paper it's printed on.
And don't forget, di wasn't the only one pushing for the recycled sewerage, there was you know who pushing his wheelbarrow and still is.

Good riddance to her.

Yes I felt like throwing up on reading that story.

They are making a big ordeal about Water Futures - SHE WAS DEFEATED. So why does that make her look so good.

I bet the Queen is glad she doesn't have to give her the award, as she certainly doesn't come upto the Queen's standards.

If nothing else, this award shows how outdated and irrelevant they have become. When it's a payoff for leaving the political scene, it's worthless. Thorley might as well use it as toilet paper in one of the toilets she's been scrubbing.
