Politics is such a game.

The real question is whether the McCain campaign is behind the story to get it out of the way before the general election.

Affairs can scuttle an election campaign - US politics and Australian politics differ somewhat on this.

There are examples in Australia where political careers have been torn up by affairs and sex scandals - a sitting NSW MP and the problems the Iemma government now face come to mind as do a couple of prominent former Qld Labor Ministers.

But the electorate sometimes turns a blind eye to the dalliances of others.

This comment was posted earlier:

I am just wondering why references are being made to the McCain campaign and sexual indiscretions by elected representitives.

It sounds like a 'hint-hint' to me.

Giving some lateral thought to the previous post by concerned ratepayer,I am now wondering if there is something important that the ratepayers of the new Toowoomba Regional Council should be made aware of regarding adverse morality amoungst the candidates before they cast their vote on the 15th March??????

There are 39 candidates for the election.

Without looking at the numbers, most are or have been married. Statistically, it would be surprising if the odd one or two haven't done things they might now regret or would if it became public (or more widely known).

There's a reason that the US public want to know their candidates' dirty laundry before they get elected. There are obvious concerns if it comes out when in office and compromises their ability to do their job.
