Toowoomba and Regional Council 2008 election hits youtube ...

First up it's Ian Jones, current mayor of Rosalie - oops - Clifton Shire [see how well known he is!], spruiking his wares.

See - Youtube - Ian Jones for Mayor - 3 min promo.

Also see - Ian Jones TV ad 1 and TV ad 2.

And the website - jones4mayor (not up and running yet).

As the 'CEO of a group of local primary producing, machinery importing, exporting companies', how will he have time to be Mayor of the expanded Council?

Just a thought ...

There is only one man who has the time and the expertise to do the job of Toowoomba and Regional Council Mayor:- Snow Manners.

We deserve a full time Mayor and not one who would be distracted by ANYTHING else!

He gets my vote.

This is a joke as this man is running a campaign with Labour Party Support.
Look at the Campaign Manager and you know that Graham Raynor was Di Thorley's manager and they think they can sneak another one past us.
This fellow will be more of the same as we have endured in the last 8 years.

We need a Mayor free to do the job without any political ties.

He also needs to be a full time Mayor and not some one who will leave it to the bureaucrates to run the show.

The colours on this add should tell the story.
Labour Party through and through!!

Spot the spelling mistake in the Ian Jones ad? That's going to be embarrassing when it hits TV! Amateur hour.

Classic! Great campaign manager that lets a TV ad go out with typos.

All candidates for mayor should disclose their links to Thorley.

If Jones isn't just the plaything of Thorley's campaign manager, then the typo is down to him as well. He must have seen it. How will he get the big things right when he can't even get his message correct?

He's a malleable candidate - someone who will do Brisbane's bidding.

The main question is could he stand up to Brisbane or would he just fall over and agree to everything they wanted to steamroll everyone in Toowoomba and the region with.

The sad fact is that even the people of Clifton do not like him!!

He is the Labour man and will definitely being doing the bidding of Anna and the boys.

Thorley tried to get him over the line as chair of amalgamation committee and he lost. He really believes that the amalgamation is a great thing because that's what the State government wants. Less power in the hands of the people and a person in charge who is on side.

We will have some curly question for Jones and his team in the weeks to come.

By the way, do we know for sure that Peter Taylor is running as not a word has been said in quite a while.

In 2004, Ian Jones defeated the sitting Mayor Ann Collins to become Mayor.

The results:

Ian Jones - 909 votes (58.53%)
Ann Collins - 644 votes (41.47%)

Total Enrolments - 1778
Total Formal Votes - 1553
Total Informal Votes - 17
Total Votes - 1570

In 2004, Toowoomba had 59,894 enrolments, so you see the problem Ian faces. He can probably count on a large portion of the Clifton vote (depending on whether anyone else from Clifton runs) but is almost unknown in Toowoomba and risks being swamped by the sheer number of Toowoomba voters.

Jones says in today's paper that 'turning up on polling day and asking for an act of faith is not enough'. Why should I vote for someone I've never heard of who will continue to run his businesses at Clifton when I want someone to be mayor of the region. Voting for Jones sounds like an act of faith.
