It's telling that Beattie has gone before his 10 year anniversary - sounds like he was pushed.

Remember that PM Howard predicted this:
"Every man and his dog, including Rusty, knows that Peter Beattie is going to retire in September or October of this year," Mr Howard said, referring to Mr Beattie's pet dog.

Labor pushed him for sure - why go now unless it's Kevin trying to diffuse the Beattie hatred ahead of the next federal election.

Anna is going to have a hard time getting the vote and who knows what the boys in the back room decide.

What worries us again there is another Beattie look a-like bully standing as Deputy - Paul Lucas. Now Anna change the Beattie mess on drinking recycled water and Council amalgamations

Surely in all this Flegg should also go - let us have a conservative resurgence. The Labor knives will ensure that Anna at best would be a very short term premier

I was wondering why Federal Labor did not seem to have the power to control Beattie. It seems they are desperate to get the Qld votes in the Federal election. I hope the public is not fooled into having both State and Federal Labor. What a retrograde step!Someone has to keep the B.....s honest.!

``It doesn't matter who leads the Labor Party, Queensland will have the same crises tomorrow as it has today,'' Mr Seeney said.
``After 10 years at the helm, Peter Beattie's legacy is one of failure in areas such as water, health, child safety and electricity.
``He's now pulling the pin with local government in absolute turmoil, communities in despair and our emergency services in meltdown.''

Excerpt from ABC Rural:
Amalgamation anger as Beattie exits
11 September 2007
There's been a varied reaction from rural Queenslanders to the resignation of Premier Peter Beattie.
Mr Beattie hopes his deputy Anna Bligh will step into the top job, with a party room vote tomorrow to make a final decision.
The Premier's resignation comes before the completion of a controversial plan to amalgamate a large number of rural shires, and many of those attending the Toowoomba saleyards were unhappy with his handling of the issue.
"He's got there, amalgamated a heap of rural shires and then dropped the baby and run, that would be my first reaction, yes."
"Terribly disappointed with Premier Beattie just lately, because of the amalgamation of all the shires."
"I think he's done a very good job, except for this, which is ridiculous, this amalgamation."
