Toowoomba ratepayers - modest rate rise ...

Excerpt from the Chronicle:

'Modest' 4.95% rate rise

25 July 2007

Toowoomba residents, on average, face a 4.95% rate rise across the city.

And those dreaded rate notices will include an extra $20, to $320, for your 20mm water access, an extra $6 (now $126) for the wheelie bin service and an extra $5 for park and bushland levy (now $30).

The $146 million budget brought down by Toowoomba City Council yesterday will cost the average ratepayer an extra $1.50 a week.
...

See - Modest rate rise.

Remember the outgoing Mayor's comments after losing the referendum last year - rates will go up by $900 for every household?

Expect more scaremongering as she packs her bags ...

How Toowoomba will survive until the drought breaks.

Excerpt from the Chronicle:

Underground water is the main expense in capital works projects in water and wastewater budget allocations of $28.408 million.

Deputy Mayor and Water and Wastewater portfolio chair Joe Ramia said $20 million, expected to be fully subsidised by the State Government, had been included in the budget to source additional groundwater from the Great Artesian Basin if summer rains fail.

"This project aims to provide an emergency supply of water to help meet the needs of the city in continuing drought conditions. With dam levels currently at just over 13%, council must continue to pursue all options in ensuring a sustainable water supply," Cr Ramia said. "Council has allocated $600,000, in the third year of a three-year project estimated to cost $10 million, to source additional groundwater from the Toowoomba basalt aquifers and to complete construction of a bore into the Great Artesian Basin."

I think he has just had a change of heart as he is now going to look at all other options!!

Strange what politicians will say when there is an election in the air.

This is not the tune he was playing this time last year, remember if the people did not vote YES the taps would run dry!!

The message on a good many of the lips of the people is that these 6 councillors must go because how could you trust them again?

I say don't let the door hit them on the way out.

The deputy mayor has no chance of re-election. He made a tape which sealed his fate long ago!
