Desalination plant double original size

NSW Premier Morris Iemma has announced the controversial desalination plant in Sydney will be twice the size originally announced.
Addressing the Institute of Public Administration Australia NSW to mark 100 days since being re-elected, Mr Iemma said doubling the capacity of the plant from 125 to 250 megalitres per day would "drought-proof" Sydney.
Mr Iemma said it made financial sense to "upscale" the 250 megalitre plant at Kurnell in the city's south and it could be built for approximately $150 million less than the original estimate of $1.9 billion for a 125 megalitre/day plant.
"Twice the capacity at less the cost," he said.
