Open letter to Amnesty International ...

Amnesty International has organised the irrepressible.info campaign to show that online or offline the human voice and human rights are impossible to repress.

We support this campaign.

Amnesty International should be aware that attempts to repress free political speech also occur in societies which are otherwise democratic.

Authorities in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia and their representatives are currently engaged in attempts to repress the free expression of views on local government issues. By focusing their attention on particular blogs which provide a forum for the free exchange of information, the authorities are attempting to silence their opposition and restrict the flow of information to the public.

We wish to bring this serious state of affairs to your attention.
