Urban Development Institute makes interesting comments ...

In the Toowoomba Chronicle today, the Urban Development Institute of Australia Queensland CEO makes some interesting comments.

He says a meeting held in Toowoomba agreed to support the use of recycled sewage for drinking, subject to two conditions:

1. Extensive consultation be undertaken within the community before a decision is made (too late in Toowoomba's case - the Mayor's version of consultation - accept it or buy bottled water).

2. Recycling projects must comply with all health and safety standards OF WHICH NONE CURRENTLY EXIST.

That's interesting - the Council is saying that drinking recycled sewage is perfectly safe and the UDIA is saying we need health and safety standards for drinking recycled sewage because none exist.

And the Mayor wonders why people are apprehensive about her plans for Toowoomba.

The Urban Development Institute CEO was also asked whether the Toowoomba City Council had done the wrong thing in hushing the project.

His response: "we all benefit from hindsight to find better ways of doing it".

The Chronicle also states that "the Council's Water Futures project was kept secret for months before it was announced in July to a stunned community".

Is this a subtle change in stance from the Chronicle, now openly reporting the facts surrounding the Mayor's secret handling of the Water Futures project?

Hasn't the council stated that its consultation with the community is when its water futures booklet is delivered to households.

They are forgetting that we don't have a say in the matter!! Dirty tactics!

Also is it true that level 5 water restrictions will be coming in March this year, when the dams reach 25%?

I have also heard that the town is now using mostly bore water, if so it is obvious that the dam water is being sold to neighbouring shires.

We don't care if the Urban Development Institute of Australia Queensland support it or not. We don't want to drink it!

Level 5 water restrictions should come in only at 20%, not 25%.

If the Council brings them in at 25%, you have to question the reason why - to panic the people into accepting the mayor's project.
