Deputy Mayor - water saviour?
Councillor Ramia is quoted in the Chronicle on 31 January as saying:
"Somewhere in this world someone's got to do something to protect our water supplies in the future, and hopefully that will be Toowoomba."
Is the Councillor trying to hold himself out as some modern-day water saviour?
There are plenty of places in the world where governments and citizens are doing something to protect water supplies.
Had the Toowoomba City Council not gone off on its "crusade" to introduce recycled water into Cooby Dam and into the drinking water supplies of Toowoomba and the surrounding towns, it is likely that the Council would have its Federal government funding and be on its way.
It is the controversial aspect of the Mayor's project - putting recycled water back into Cooby Dam - which is holding up this project.
There's also nothing stopping the Toowoomba City Council from looking at the alternative water sources (which they don't believe in but plenty of others do). That would help to "protect our water supplies in the future".
Just a thought ...
