Toowoomba water sales down ... price increases to come?

Towards the end of the Council Committee minutes for 6-7 December are two interesting points:

1. Item 50.3 Water Income

There will be a substantial reduction of water income as a result of the drought and water restrictions [and the recent rains reducing the need to water gardens].

2. Item 50.4 Water Pricing Review

Quotations have been sought for a review of the water pricing model for the two-part tariff.

See - Council minutes - 6-7 December 2005.

So to plug the reduction in income, Council is going to review the pricing for water. Look for water rates increases in 2006!

One of the interesting aspects of the recycled sewage proposal is that it permits the Council to "manufacture" water for sale to residents. If it were to proceed, don't rule out the Council embarking on a "use as much water as possible" campaign - the more you use, the more the Council rakes in. Makes you think that the Council's motivation for introducing recycled sewage is financial.

If Council adopted an alternative to the recycled sewage proposal which involved buying water from a third party such as Qld Gas Corp or irrigators, Council could only charge ratepayers a margin over what it costs to buy the water. It makes much more financial sense to recycled the water yourself and maximise the profits ...

TCC only caring about making money from there new water recycling plant!
Whats new!!!
You only have to look at some other schemes they introduced to verify that they are all about making money at the expense of the residents.

(1)Cat Registrations
(2)Fee to use the dump
(3)Fee to use the dams recreational areas
(4)Couples having to pay to use the Botanic Gardens to wed

Is there more I am misssing?
You bet your sweet bippy there is!
Go and find out yourselves all of you Toowoomba Citizens, you will be unpleasantly surprised!
An inefficient Council will always look to new revenue raising options to cover up there own shortcomings and to make themselves look more efficient at the expense of its ratepayers and citizens and even visitors.
I would have to ask how does the TCC get away with it?
Are all you Toowoomba residents dumb, rich or just do not care?

The TCC recycled effluent plant maybe just cover up so that they do not have to spend any more dollars cleaning up the effluent water flowing into Gowrie while at the same time making ratepayers fit the bill for the cost of operating there reverse osmosis plant and to top it all off make you drink the stuff.

Watch yourselves as it wouldn't surprise me if they are using the drought as an excuse to charge you all to use the cities parks and recreational areas as well.

The council had already $1.5 million in their coffers before the last rates for this recycled shit or sorry sewage project.

They had introduced this charge before the last election and increased our water access charge.

Could the current councillors who voted for this in the previous council please stand up and admit they passed this.

Why didn't they go to the last election with this.

Well the next term in council will see a whole lot of new faces from the mayor, deputy mayor downwards.

Come on next elections.
