For many years, the 4350water blog has informed readers of plans by the Toowoomba City Council (now Toowoomba Regional Council) and the Qld government to introduce recycled water for drinking in Toowoomba. It has also looked at the issue from a State and Federal perspective and dealt with related State and Federal political issues. There continues to be a need for the Toowoomba Regional Council to be completely transparent in its dealings with the ratepayers and residents of Toowoomba. There also continues to be a need for open debate on the benefits and risks of potable reuse and long-term studies on the effects on humans of drinking recycled water. Coal seam gas water is emerging as a possible alternate water source for some uses for the region. The 4350water blog is a collective effort and thanks go to its many contributors.

Example 1 - 'it's not secret just confidential and not for distribution'
Acting Premier Anna Bligh yesterday sought to justify the Government's handling of the first progress report on the Partnerships Queensland plan to improve the lives of indigenous people.
The Australian revealed yesterday that the draft progress report for 2006 - stamped "confidential" and completed in April by the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy - was shelved ahead of the September state election, and the department scrapped by Premier Peter Beattie soon after.
But Ms Bligh yesterday joined former Aboriginal affairs minister John Mickel and Communities Minister Warren Pitt in insisting the final report was never shelved, only delayed.
Ms Bligh - who also claimed the draft report was not secret, despite being stamped "confidential, not for citation or distribution" and not yet released - said the election and the abolition of the department had caused the delays. "There have been some departmental changes and people moved so it might have been delayed because of the structural changes after the election," she said.

Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Water Malcolm Turnbull has commissioned the Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation to determine if there is sufficient water in northern NSW to augment southeast Queensland supplies.
Mr Turnbull has been embroiled in a war of words with Ms Bligh over Queensland water policies for the past two weeks.
In a statement to The Australian, Ms Bligh ridiculed the NSW water proposal.
"I am unaware of any material to support Mr Turnbull's claim that pumping water some 300km through, over or under the Border Ranges, is more cost effective," Ms Bligh said.

Tweed Shire general manager Michael Rayner disputed suggestions that a pipeline would need to be constructed over mountains.
Mr Rayner said a pipeline was built a short distance from the Tweed River to the Gold Coast in the late 1980s, although water was never pumped because of a row between the NSW and Queensland governments over water rights.
"It was a very good project and it would have worked well," Mr Rayner said. "There is certainly no technical reason why it can't be done."
Mr Turnbull told The Australian that Ms Bligh had informed him she would not allow any of her "good people" to spend time on the proposal to pump water from northern NSW.
